Clink Wharf - London
| Apt 1, Clink Wharf
Our brief was to refurbish this two-bedroom Thames-side apartment in a warehouse development, to give a hybrid loft/hotel style. The existing design meant that the space had to be completely gutted. Existing plaster was hacked off to expose old London stock brickwork, and grey engineering bricks were installed to frame the windows. New acoustic ceilings and oak floors were installed.
The main space is ‘L’ shaped with open plan living, dining, kitchen and study. The study can be enclosed using sliding/swivel etched glass screens to provide privacy whilst working, or act as a guest bedroom by utilising the suede studio couch. A new ‘pod’ was erected in polished Venetian plaster (by DKT) with a bank of bronze ‘secret’ doors, giving access to: Guest shower room, Laundry, Master suite, Audio/visual racking, Wine store, Guest coats, and general storage. In the main living space the Venetian wall incorporates two secret doors, with DVD/CD shelving on the reverse, to conceal the boiler/electrical distribution and hot water storage. The living area rug, Study bookcase, master bed, upholstered wall to bed-head and wardrobes are bespoke designs by MDS. The kitchen, which has glass worktops and splashback, was designed by MDS and manufactured by Poggenpohl.
Radiators are salvaged 1930’s originals, refurbished and burnished by Lassco RBK. The lighting scheme was designed by MDS, with all power feeds housed in galvanised conduits with brushed nickel switch plates and socket outlets. Candle sconces provide secondary ambient lighting to Living/Dining and master bathroom. All other furniture and lighting was supplied by Viaduct to MDS specifications.
